Perspective

Zoom Out, Breathe In

Ever watched a thriller movie, snacks vanished in a jiffy, your heart pounding, only to realise… you missed half the plot because you were too in it? Not the best strategy, right? That’s kind of how life feels when everything piles on and we forget to zoom out.

Perspective is that moment when you finally sit back, blink, and realise..oh, maybe it’s not all falling apart. It’s just… a scene. Not the whole story.

Life can feel a bit like holding a magnifying glass over your problems. Every little issue looks massive. Your friend didn’t reply? Must be mad. Someone didn’t compliment your new dress, haircut or the look? It’s doomed. You fumbled during a presentation? Career over. But wait, breathe, zoom out. Would this still matter five years from now? Maybe not even five days. It’s not about pretending nothing matters. It’s about reminding yourself that not everything deserves front row seats in your brain. Thoughts will come, like those trailers, some dramatic, some hilarious, some downright useless. You don’t have to RSVP to all of them.

Sometimes, perspective shows up in funny little ways. Like when your phone battery dies and you feel lost… then realise, oh right, people survived for centuries without Google Maps. Or when your mom yells about the wet towel on the bed, again! and instead of snapping back, you pause and think, “This is her love language.” You smile and say sorry. And if you’re deep in the “blaming everything” zone, take a moment. Sometimes, gaining perspective is as small as stepping outside, looking at the sky, and realising the world is much bigger than your to-do list. Or your current mood. Or even those zones in your mind.

Because, most of what feels too much right now isn’t permanent. So take a moment. Take that mental drone shot of your life and remember, Perspective doesn’t cancel problems. It just gives you a better seat to face them from. It whispers, “Hey, maybe you’re doing okay. Maybe this is just one scene. And maybe… the plot twist is coming.”

So today, before spiraling into the next mini-crisis, blink slowly. Zoom out. Look around. And if all else fails, rewatch that thriller with snacks after the credits roll. Turns out, the second time around, you see a lot more.
