The Secret to a Better Life (Seriously, Try It) |
We’re all in a rush, right? Constantly checking messages, scrolling through feeds, and hunting for that next online purchase or filling our cart just to fill the void. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun… until it isn’t. We’ve somehow turned “taking a break” into a task. A task that comes with a tired sigh and a faint frown. Aah this is so me!
Here I am not talking about those “breaks” where you check your phone or shop virtually to fill the pause. No, I mean the real kind of pause. The one where you step back, do absolutely nothing, and resist the urge to distract yourself with some filler. That’s the power move.
Now, I get it. Hitting pause for real feels like a big ask. We’re all scared of boredom. Who wants to be stuck in their own thoughts, right? But here’s the secret, boredom is good. It’s your brain’s way of saying, “Hey, you’ve been running too hard, slow down a bit.”
But let’s not kid ourselves. Pausing doesn’t mean you’re suddenly free of all responsibilities or tasks. Life’s still demanding, and guess what? You like being busy! But the key is knowing when to pull back, check in with yourself, and just be. No guilt. No justification. No need for a reason. Just you in the moment.
The catch here is not to use pauses as an excuse to check out. Don’t binge on pause episodes. It’s easy to think, “Oh, I’m just taking a little break,” and before you know it, your whole afternoon is gone. And while it might feel good, it doesn’t always leave you feeling better. That’s why true pauses require awareness. Know your scenario, and take the pause accordingly and don’t hide behind it every time life gets a little overwhelming. Don’t let it become another task to manage. Make it intentional.
Think about it, when was the last time you allowed yourself to truly do nothing without immediately reaching for your phone? To just sit there, let your thoughts wander, sipping your coffee with a smile and not feel the pressure to do something? That’s the pause I’m talking about. You don’t need to be doing something to be productive. Sometimes, doing nothing is the most productive thing you can do for your mental health, your creativity, and your sanity.
So here’s the challenge, the next time you catch yourself filling a pause with distractions, hit stop for real. Let yourself breathe. Be present with yourself. And don’t feel guilty about it. Because it’s okay to withdraw for a minute. Recharge. And then, when you hit play again, come back stronger. Just don’t overdo the pause episodes. Be aware, take the call, and press pause only when it serves you.
Phew! this statutory warning struck me just in time! Hmm and did you see the new Blog Crash?
